This Miata, for sale in Atlanta, is apparently a pre-retail unit and one of the first ever built, period.

Not enough info is given to know how many there are that pre-date it, but supposedly the 90th one is the first sold to the public. So it’s earlier than that.

cool, but this guy sounds like an ass. Put a price on it and let whoever buys it do whatever they want to it.

he acts like its a McLaren F1. He does word it like an ass. It still looks like any other Miata and you still have to explain why its special. I wouldn’t pay collectors price for it or even more than a regular miata of the time. A miata you shouldn’t drive is the wrong type of Miata

It being an early production car isn’t enough to make it a museum piece. It’s a Miata. Not driving it would be sacrilege.

I am glad I am not the only one that gets irritated by pretentious asses on classifieds.

Jesus that seller needs to chill out. I want to buy it now just to either torch it or turn it into a SLAB just to spite this asshole. It’s a fuckin’ Miata not a coach built V16 Cadillac.

Then tell the guy you aren't satisfied with it and demand a refund.

It has 145k on it. Collector value added is....0.

Aliens... That’s why this guy is like that. He just is in the wrong Roswell.

I don’t know... I can sympathize a bit. If I had a super clean AW11 I was letting go for some reason, I’d be picky about who got it. That being said, I wouldn’t try to sell it through craigslist.

I have been down this road, better to just let it go and get your money - preferably to someone far away

He’s an ass! He’s an ass. 145k miles and it’s belong in collection. Opulence. I haz it. IT should be restored? Okay, then restore it and then we will pay more than $800. There’s thousands of decayed and wrecked WW2 fighters in the muck across Europe and Russia and in the deserts of Africa. They pop up in war-bird classifieds by locals wanting to get $2million for a total wreck that’s not re-storable just because of what it WAS. This guy might know what he has, but it’s got a bazillion miles on it and the nose pulley is probably barely holding on and he said it himself, it needs to be restored.

I don’t know. Again, this is with regards to knowing what you have and the history of the vehicle, but something truly special (and I’d consider a pre-production Miata to be one), I’d be more obliged to just sit on it. I sent him an email out of curiosity. If I can pick it up as-is for 2-3K, I’d consider it a decent investment if everything checks out.

yeah my last heartbreak came in the form of my old 504 diesel wagon, one of less than 10 on the road in this country. Sold it to a local welding teacher who promised me it would be taken care of, within 2 years it was a total rust bucket and missing all kinds of parts. Just made me super sad. Then there was the 85 Passat diesel wagon I imported, and was beat to shit too. I used to 100% agree with you, but now I just cant care about it
